Blackpool and the lakes

A few days in Blackpool to blow the cobwebs away , it has really been cleaned up especially the sea front and around the tower ,

Even the trams are new and modernised, we had a trip up to the market and I managed to restrain myself from stocking up on more wool.

This was the view from the top of the tower, with its new glass floor and windows, this is a collection of sayings from all the famous people, can you enlarge this and read them ??

The ballroom was a treat didn't get to see Hayley and Roy though

Then it was upto the lakes , and a drive to bowness on Windermere

 

Fortunately we managed to choose the best day , it was like a summer day, we also visited Kendal which had some lovely craft and yarn shops,

Skipton puppet festival

Skipton also held a puppet festival the same weekend as Yarndale, on the Saturday was puppet shows , stalls and workshops, the canal side was very busy , Sunday was the puppet parade through the town.

After leaving Yarndale ,we made our into the town to join the throng of people waiting for the parade to begin , was there anyone left at Yarndale ? The town was heaving and thankfully the sun was shining

The enthusiasm and excitement of those taking part in the parade was very infectious and the puppets themselves were brilliant and so lifelike , what a parade

Yarndale

Well this weekend has finally arrived , as soon as Yarndale was announced

I was making plans to be there . Shall we go in our caravan or stop in a b&b for a change? Having been to skipton before ,I knew the caravan sites weren't close to town so we opted to stay 2 nights in a b&b.

I'd researched the event fully, making a note of which exhibitors I wanted to see and even the purchases I was going to buy , so armed with my pre bought yarndale bag off we set early on Saturday

 

To get stuck in traffic even tho we were only a mile away, I knew it was going to be big , but

Look what greeted us as we went in the main entrance, overwhelming , loads and loads of bunting , sent from all over the world .

 

Also in the entrance hall was a knitted picnic. This was made in 2010 and hadn't it fared well

A group of 9 women also created this display of Andalusian food

This was one of my earmarked stalls to visit , Marmalade Rose , it was delightfull to see all her lovely creations up close and to have a chat with her,

My next earmarked stall was For The Love of Yarn , and my next intended purchase ,a handmade,unique crochet hook, only problem was which one to choose

Lisa, from TLOY, had posted a picture of her encounter with a calf on the way to the venue on Friday, on FB , she had her two children with her and somewhere they had disappeared.

The venue was absolutely packed , mesmerised by the amount of people ,you couldn't really take it all in .

I had a chance to talk to Lucy @ attic24, in the knit n natter lounge, I bet by the end of the day she was exhausted , there was a queue of people wanting to talk to her,

It was a delight to see alpacas up so close, hopefully they weren't too stressed out by all the attention.

The queue for the food was miles long, the queue for the ladies even longer, as it is at every event , to say it was a success is an understatement

Needless to say I had to return again next day and how much more enjoyable it was to walk round and linger and look at each stall, loads of difference from the too busy day yesterday, it was a pleasure to be there,

Yarndale weekend coincided with the Puppet Festival,

I couldn't leave Skipton without a visit to The Studio
